Eco Calendars

Culture. Nature. Future.

In the high mountain landscapes of Ladakh, generations have lived by observing the sky, the soil, and the subtle shifts of the seasons. These observations form ecological calendars, that are community-based knowledge systems that align human activities with recurring patterns in the environment. As the climate grows more unpredictable, these patterns are breaking down. Our research works to reconstruct ecological calendars by integrating Indigenous knowledge with biophysical data, helping communities anticipate change, adapt their livelihoods, and strengthen climate resilience across the Himalayas.
